Troubleshooting

When something doesn't work.

Most issues are fixable in under 2 minutes. The fixes below cover ~90% of support emails we've received.

Model download fails or stalls
Most common cause: unstable Wi-Fi mid-download. Open Settings → Storage → tap the Cove app → Clear cache, then relaunch and retry. If still failing, check that you have at least 5 GB free space — the model needs room to extract during download.
Translation / analysis is slow (10+ seconds)
Phone may be falling back to CPU instead of NPU. Try: (1) close background apps to free RAM; (2) reboot the phone so the OS reclaims NPU resources; (3) check the system requirements page — older phones (Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, Tensor G1, Dimensity 8200) run Gemma 4 E2B much slower than recent NPUs, since this is the same on-device model on free and Pro.
App crashes on launch
Almost always due to insufficient RAM. Cove needs ~2 GB free RAM to load the model. Reboot the phone, kill background apps, and try again. If the phone has 4 GB RAM total and lots of background processes, this can be tight — see system requirements for recommended specs.
Microphone or camera not working
Settings → Apps → Cove [app] → Permissions → enable mic / camera. If the app doesn't appear in the permission list, fully reinstall the APK. Some Chinese phone OEMs (MIUI, ColorOS) have additional permission layers — check the OEM's autostart and notification settings too.
Translation looks wrong or strange
Cove runs Gemma 4 E2B fully on-device — accuracy on long technical text or rare jargon is lower than the largest cloud translators. Three options: (1) shorten the input to one sentence at a time; (2) re-run with more context in the source text; (3) for legal/medical/contract text, use a professional translator. Cove is good at conversational text, not 200-page documents.
I bought Pro but it's not active
Settings → Restore purchase. This re-checks Google Play for your purchase. If still not restored, ensure you're signed in to the same Google account you used to buy. Email [email protected] with your Play Store order ID if needed.
